Developing my game - The idea

Since I was a kid I've always wanted to develop a game. If I could pick one person that have always inspired me as a developer it would be Mark Healey , best known for Little Big Planet and of course Dreams . Why? Well, he always struck me as that kind of person who is very humble but at the same time knows his stuff. He goes hands deep in the dirt in the code when he needs too, and at the same time does art for the love it. Him and his team is a beacon for this industry, and whatever happens to my game, I'll be grateful because it's them who inspired me to do it. Because I'm tired of waiting for the "perfect" moment to develop my game, I believe it's time. Anyway, sorry for rambling...
I believe that many people (including myself) has been day-dreaming about running a cafe or resturant. I've always wondered what kind of people you would meet and cook food for. What about the conversations you would find yourself in? These are the questions I want to explore and answer with my game. And that is what it is about, running a business and get to know people and perhaps yourself along the way.
I've decided to go with a library called SFML which is a simple multimedia library. It's primarily used with C++, but they do support different languages with the communities help. I'll go with C++ because why not? The question you may ask is "why don't you go with a game engine such as godot ?". My answer to that is "why not?", it will be fun! For drawing sprites and art I bought aseprite , which I find very easy to use. Now, I'm not an artist by any means, but I'll do my best and just try to be better. I have not really begun thinking about sound and music, I'll probably go in with that later.
So this week I drew a sprite atlas that I'll use in my game. I decided to go with a 16bit because I red that it's easier to go with lower resolutions for beginners. I'm not really sure about the best practices when it comes to organizing atlases, but I just drew things and hoping for the best. I try to keep character stuff to the left, objects and structures to the right, effects such as shadows in the bottom left and UI and such in the bottom right. If I end up in trouble further down the line, I'll handle it then.
While drawing I used a map-editor software called tiled . This allowed me to see how things would fit together while drawing. I drew some of the basics things that I believe I'll need for now, and I will obviously keep adding things along the way. But I think I have a good start for now. I might even redraw things later as I get better at drawing, but it's good for now, and I'm very eager to go down to the code and start implementing things.
But, that is something I'll be doing next week. Until then!
